ESL Classroom Program
When I leave my group of students, I feel good about the world. You give, but you get back so much more. Watching people progress is rewarding. You see people you would not meet in your everyday life and get a different perspective on things.

What do we do?
The Literacy Council offers a classroom program for adults who want to learn English as a second language (ESL). We have classes for beginning, intermediate, and advanced learners.
Where do students learn?
Until further notice, classes will be held virtually via Google Meet or Zoom.
When do students learn?
Classes are a total of 60 hours. We offer Morning, Afternoon, Evening and Saturday Classes. Students may not miss more than 6 hours of class or they will be removed from the program.
What does it cost?
All students will have to pay a $25 one time educational materials fee ONE time a year. This fee will allow learners to benefits all programs (some restrictions apply)from what LCMC offers.
Who can be a student?
Students must live or work in the state of Maryland. Students cannot be enrolled in our tutoring program at the same time as taking one of our ESL classes. Students in the ESL class program must be at least 18 years old and not enrolled in high school. We cannot serve F-1 and J-1 visa holders.
How can I become a student?

Choose the schedule that works best for you.
LCMC's Intake Assessment Specialist will email you to schedule you for a test. You must take this test to be placed in a class.
After taking the test, you must wait to hear from your teacher with class information.
Available Classes: LCMC holds classes on a rolling basis. This means that new classes will be offered frequently.
All classes will be held online. You will receive login and classroom information from your teacher before the class begins.
All students will have to pay $25 for the materials fee to attend a class.
You must be 18 years of age or older and live or work in Maryland
LCMC's 60-Hour ESL Class Program is unable to provide services to F-1 and J-1 visa holders.
